Silent Hill Nurse

Posted in Costumes by Michelle on September 14, 2010

OK. This is a costume that I’ve always wanted to try – a creepy dead zombie nurse from the movie, Silent Hill. I never played the game but it looks like the movie version is creepier. The second pic is just cosplay. I know! Amazing, right?

There are so many tutorials out there on how to make the dress, mask, make up, and added tips to make it look extra creepy. Really – I don’t think it would cost too much to make everything, maybe $50 if you shop smart.

Where the Wild Things Are Cake

Posted in Art, Food by Michelle on November 18, 2009

This is a really cool cake, check it out at Coco Cake Cupcakes.

I really love how the piping for his hair isn’t all one color. It makes the cake look way more interesting. I also love the cute ribbon at the bottom. I wish I could make stuff like this!

Where the Wild Things Are: Max Costume

Posted in Costumes by Michelle on October 17, 2009

The Max Onesie from Where the Wild Things Are is probably going to be a very popular costume this year with the release of the movie. I’m currently sewing a homemade version of the costume for my boyfriend. This will be the biggest sewing project I’m undertaking and one of a few that I will actually finish. If y’all don’t sew or are too lazy or have the money…. here are some great options.

Max Costume from Opening Ceremony: $610. – Sold Out -, I guess the price tag did nothing to deter the hipsters.

K.W. Boxy  Fur Coat from Opening Ceremony: $575. Loving it!

Here is a list of items needed for the Max costume if you want to undertake this yourself. All are cheaper alternatives.

Victorian Corsets

I was shopping around for Victorian Corsets for my Mad Hatter Costume when I found this:

Ok, it’s not exactly Mad Hatter-ish, but I’ll tell you what -ishness it is…. It remind’s me of a Victorian or gothic vampire-ish feel. I love this corset so much so that I’m thinking of possibly getting these along with it:

“I’m going to paraphrase Thoreau here… rather than love, than money, than faith, than fame, than fairness… give me truth.” (Into the Wild)

I don’t know how many times I’ve caught Into the Wild on HBO, but I can’t get tired of it. It is an excellently-made movie telling the story of a man who dared to live without money, society, and rules but the rules of his own. I am so amazed at how this man decided to live. I’m wondering how it would have turned out if he was able to write his book about his travels. Would it voucher him a win?
