Donny Nguyen Sketches

Posted in Art, People by Michelle on September 6, 2010

I came across this amazing Albatross sketch the other day by Donny Nguyen when I was researching The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Visit his blog at [ donny draws ]. This is exactly the reason why I started this blog – so that whatever I find interesting, I don’t have to forget.

Here’s another sketch he made of one of the most awesome bands everrrr…. Crystal Castles!

His drawings are evidently oozing of talent. As in the words of Rachel Zoe, “I love.”

Harry Clarke

Posted in Art, People by Michelle on September 3, 2010

Pen and ink are amazing mediums and two of my favorites to experience. And Harry Clarke shows off their assets to the fullest. His illustrations have a consistent gothic quality which makes them so facinating. I really want a tattoo by him, just don’t know what it will be. They’re all beautiful.

I love this design. Minus the silver lettering.

The Impractical, Do Not Touch, Shelves

Posted in Amusing, Art, Books / Words / Articles, For the House by Michelle on January 9, 2010

Interesting,…… piece of art.

Do Not Touch (counterbalanced shelves)
5 pine planks (each 6 feet), 5 metal brackets, tools and materials from the gallery utility closet or found on the gallery grounds. Each of the five shelves that comprise this work is balanced on a single bracket. All maintain their level balance by the precise placement of the objects they bear.

Where the Wild Things Are Cake

Posted in Art, Food by Michelle on November 18, 2009

This is a really cool cake, check it out at Coco Cake Cupcakes.

I really love how the piping for his hair isn’t all one color. It makes the cake look way more interesting. I also love the cute ribbon at the bottom. I wish I could make stuff like this!

Next thing I want to see… FELA!

Posted in Art, Events, People by Michelle on November 12, 2009

FELA! is now on Broadway and in previews till Nov. 20. You can score tickets for $50.00 a pop or  $27.00 rush tickets 2 hrs before curtain time. The actual opening is November 23.

This new musical is based on the life of Fela Kuti. From Wikipedia:

Fela Anikulapo Kuti (15 October 1938 – 2 August 1997), or simply Fela, was a Nigerian multi-instrumentalist musician and composer, pioneer of afrobeat music, human rights activist, and political maverick.[1] James Brown cited him as one of the originators of funk.

The show covers Fela’s life in music, politics, and death.

Barbie x Christian Louboutin ’09

Posted in Art, People, Shoes by Michelle on October 31, 2009

Christian Louboutin is styling Barbie for the Designer Series. I don’t know about you, but I used to collect the collectible Barbies with my mother, spending $250+, without a thought. I think it’s time to delve into our bad habits once again. And what could be better than spending money on a pair of plastic Louboutins? The Louboutin Barbie is very very limited. Only 7,700 being sold of the Jewelry Thief Barbie. All Barbies should be around $150.00.

To Buy and for Pre-order Events: Net-a-Porter and Barbie Collector.

Christian Louboutin gives ‘fat legged’ Barbie a ‘slimmer’ makover! (okay, this is ridiculous!)
